Fern Canyon and Coastal Trail to Ossagon Creek, Prairie Creek Redwood State Park
April 18, 2009
There were only four of us: Jessie Floto (Co-Founder HCHS), Sandra Healy (lecture attendee), my
friend Brad and myself;  I often find smaller groups less invasive.   We sighted countless Pacific
Chorus Frogs (top) - their color and pattern diversity is amazing!  We spotted a few red-legs out
and about; most of their numbers ranged in the tens of thousands as tadpoles in the many pools
and creek outlets along the trail.  Boreal Toads, a newt, Northwestern Alligator Lizards, and an
ensatina also joined the list of herps discovered.  Three garters were seen (mostly tails slipping
under cover), but not identified.   Also pictured (below) are a few dangers to the lives of tadpoles.
