REPTILE & AMPHIBIANS DISCOVERY DAY
HSU Natural History Museum
March 1, 2008
The Humboldt County Herpetological Society and the California Reptorium joined Dr. Sharyn Marks and her HSU
herpetology class for a fun-filled day at the museum sharing herps with the public!  Many fascinating specimens were
on display!  The public was great, especially all the kids!  Thanks once again to everyone who volunteered their
beloved critters and to all of you who pitched in with set-up and handling.  The children would not have had as much
fun if it wasn't for all the snake wranglers!  Let's do this more often!

Amphibian Ark, an international effort endorsed by
Sir David Attenborough, is a campaign that urges
zoos around the world to generate public awareness
to the massive decline in amphibian populations
worldwide.  Sequoia Park Zoo, being the smallest
zoo accredited by the AZA, took a big leap and
brought the world of frogs to Eureka!  Organized by
Vanessa Blot, who has an internship at the zoo, and
the zoo's very own Amber Neilson, the event
included a variety of fun games and activities for the
kids.  HumboldtHerpers Jessica Floto and Steven
Krause joined Vanessa's big band of enthusiastic
volunteers and engaged in frog origami, the
construction of froggie retreats and recycled-paper
planters, and more.  Frog facts were presented
complete with bobbly eyes!   The kids showed off
their jumping skills and had a blast, and we hope
they learned some important information about frogs.

1ST HCHS HIKE for SPRING 2008 - EAST FORK CAMPGROUND

(East Fork of Willow Creek - Humboldt County) Saturday - May 10, 2008
This hike was great!  It was a beautiful day.
We met many new faces from a variety of age
groups.  Welcome Bradford Norman and Gabriel,
Gordon, Curt, Alon, Rosa (and her mom!), Stassia
(Redwood National Parks) and her son and
daughter; hello again to Jessi, Brian, my wife Kim,
daughter Kajdien, and my good friend Brad.

I was so busy taking pictures of flora and fauna, I did
not get any snapshots of the group! :(
